Black and Green: A Fresh Perspective

To mark the start of Black History Month and its overlap with the end of Great Big Green Week, join us for an informal discussion, led by Miss Divine and Rosina Al-Shaater from Black & Green Ambassadors, exploring how we can help create an environmentally and socially just future for all.

Black & Green Ambassadors
The Black & Green Ambassadors, are a city-wide programme empowering new leaders to engage diverse communities with environmental and social justice issues. The programme exists to connect, empower and celebrate diverse leadership and community action on environmental issues in Bristol and beyond. We are also here to challenge perceptions, create new opportunities and work towards ensuring the environmental movement is inclusive and representative of all communities.

From The Black Earth
This film, to be screened as part of the discussions, explores nature, farming and ethnic diversity. It is a collaboration between Bristol based company Cables and Cameras, and a local farmer Humphrey Lloyd of Three Hares Market Garden. Employing both lucid speakers and poetic camera work, the film poses stark questions such as, why does food poverty exist in a nation of plenty, and why are people of colour so under represented not only in our countryside and farms, but in the environmental movement more broadly? By giving a platform to people of colour who are connecting with nature and working the land, this short documentary starts to unpick these questions…
